The Department of Psychiatry, Govt. Thoothukudi Medical College Hospital, commemorated World Suicide Prevention Day on 10 September 2026 at the NTPL Seminar Hall.

The programme was graced by Prof. Dr. E. Ebenezer Joel Kumar, MD, Dean, as the Chief Guest. Dr. R. Padmanaban, Medical Superintendent, and Dr. J. Silas Jeyamani, RMO, felicitated the event.

An awareness lecture on Suicide Prevention was delivered by Dr. Sriram, emphasizing the importance of early identification, timely intervention, and community participation in preventing suicide.

A panel discussion on suicide prevention, headed by Prof. Dr. M. B. Abdul Rahuman, MD (Psychiatry), was conducted by Dr. Jeeva and Dr. Sriram from the Department of Psychiatry. During the session, questions and concerns submitted anonymously by students and faculty members through a Google Form shared earlier were addressed. The discussion helped clarify misconceptions, enhance awareness, and promote open conversations about mental health and suicide prevention.
