The Department of Biochemistry is located in the third floor of the faculty block. It comprises of one Professor and Head of the Department, one Associate Professor, two Senior Assistant Professors, four Tutors, two skilled lab technicians and one office assistant.
The Department of biochemistry is involved in teaching and training undergraduate students (MBBS, BSc Medical Lab Technicians, Diploma in Medical Lab Technicians)
We conduct 80 hours of lecture on biochemistry and molecular biology (theory), 150 hours of small group teaching, tutorials, integrated teaching including practical sessions, 20 hours of self-directed learning (SDL), 30 hours of early clinical exposure (ECE), 7 hours of AETCOM (Attitude, Ethics and Communication module), 5 hours of sports and extra-curricular activities) We also conduct formative assessment, summative assessment and term examinations.
FACILITIES AVAILABLE:
The Department is well equipped with research equipments such as high speed ultra centrifuge, spectrophotometers, protein electrophoresis unit, chromatography chamber, semi-auto analyser, incubator, pH meters. General facilities such as balance, microscope, water bath, colorimeter, spectroscope, laboratory fume hood, distilled water plant, refrigerator are also available.
MBBS students are encouraged to indulge in and apply for research activities like ICMR STS projects (Indian Council of Medical Research) every year.
